Supporting special educational needs in school

At Prendergast Primary School, all learners are supported and encouraged to make excellent progress, both academically as well as in their social and emotional development, through a range of activities, subjects and learning styles. Learning is individualised to meet the needs of the learner, however there are some cases where children still find it challenging to access learning. In this instance, parents are invited to meet with the class teacher to discuss any difficulties encountered and any adjustments that can be made to support individual needs.

Where children require more support, parents can meet with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) who can offer further advice and support. Children may be assessed in school or by outside agencies to support individual needs of children with a varying level of need. Assessment can include ASD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, speech, language and communication, as well as social, emotional and mental health.

If you would like to discuss the needs of your child in greater detail, please contact the class teacher in the first instance, or the SENCO through the school office.
